Exactas and Quinellas with the Palm M500

Exactas and Quinellas are much like flat betting, only you get better odds. As with win betting, favorites are overbet, and there are lots of overlays available if you can isolate the contention. The M500 version of HedgeHog has an "exacta mode" that allows you to enter exacta or quinella payoffs as they appear on the trackside monitor, then hedge or dutch the race just as if you were betting several horses to win. Because of the higher odds, you can include many more combinations than with straight win bets. HedgeHog keeps the exacta and win computations separate in memory so you can figure both types of wagers at the same time. In practice, you enter the post position numbers then choose what type of bet you want to make (box, top wheel, bottom wheel, top/bottom wheel, etc.). HedgeHog will then display all the possible combinations. All you have to do is to enter the payoffs as they appear on the monitor. All profits and margins will be instantly displayed as you enter data and select how you want to handle each combination. As with win betting, you can throw out a combination, hedge it, partially hedge it, dutch it, or proportionally dutch it.

The manual version (HedgeMan) has tables in the instruction booklet that convert exacta/quinella payoffs to win odds so it's possible to play simple exactas and quinellas. Although it's technically possible to play complex exactas with the manual version (the instruction booklet shows you how), in practice it's not really feasible. If you plan on using HedgeHog for complex exactas you're much better off with the Palm M500.
